Jim Story is an experienced criminal defense trial attorney and partner in the firm who brings decades of courtroom experience to defending individuals accused of crimes. A former Assistant District Attorney, Mr. Story served as lead prosecutor in more than 40 jury trials involving charges ranging from drug possession to murder. Over the course of his career as both a prosecutor and defense attorney, he has led more than 70 jury trials and handled thousands of criminal cases across every level of the Texas court system.
Mr. Story represents clients facing serious criminal charges and is known for his thorough preparation, strategic advocacy, and willingness to take cases to trial when necessary. His experience in Justice of the Peace courts, misdemeanor courts, and felony courts provides him with a comprehensive understanding of how criminal cases move through the Texas legal system. This broad experience allows him to develop effective defense strategies tailored to the specific circumstances of each case.
Prosecutor and Trial Experience
Mr. Story spent six years as an Assistant District Attorney, where he gained extensive courtroom experience prosecuting serious criminal offenses. Serving as lead prosecutor in more than 40 jury trials, he developed a deep understanding of how criminal cases are investigated, prepared, and presented before a jury.
Since transitioning into criminal defense, Mr. Story has continued to build on that experience by representing individuals facing a wide range of criminal charges. His background as a prosecutor provides valuable insight into how the state evaluates cases and prepares for trial—knowledge he now uses to challenge evidence, identify weaknesses in the prosecution’s case, and advocate aggressively for his clients.
Military Service and Discipline
Before entering the legal profession, Mr. Story served in the United States Army on active duty from 1987 to 1989 and in the Inactive Reserve from 1989 to 1995. During his service, he earned the Good Conduct Medal and achieved the rank of Private First Class (E-3). His military occupational specialty was 13 Foxtrot, Forward Observer for Artillery.
Mr. Story completed his basic training and Advanced Infantry Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and was stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army. The discipline, preparation, and perseverance he developed through military service continue to shape his approach to defending clients in the courtroom.
Background and Commitment to Clients
Born at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, North Carolina, and raised in the small town of Jarratt, Virginia, Mr. Story later made Texas his home. His upbringing instilled in him a strong sense of responsibility, independence, and commitment to standing up for others.
